Leveraging the vast resources available in the open source community
will greatly reduce the cost of many solutions. The adoption of a wide
range of tools has made some of the open source options standard in many arenas.
Below are a few examples of open source projects that Q Alpha recommends
and supports:
            
             Apache Web Server was found to be running on more than 70% of the
web sites on the Internet in a survey performe by Netcraft
Its remarkable stability and wide acceptance make it an excellent choice
that is highly cost effective.
            
             OpenOffice is a desktop office suite that contains word processing,
spreadsheet, presentation, drawing and database programs. The software is free
and will perform many of the functions that costly proprietary office suites will do.
            
             PostgreSQL is a database engine that bills itself as
"the world's most advanced open source database". It contains many
of the features found in proprietary database engines costing thousands
of dollars.
            
             MySQL is another database engine that is considered
to be "The world's most popular open source database". It is very fast
and is used in an enormous number of data driven web sites.
            
             The GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program that has
features comparable to expensive proprietary programs of the same scope.
             Blender is an extremely powerful 3D graphics creation
package that will aid in 3D modeling and animation. Many of the graphics
on this site were created using Blender.
            
While open source software is often an excellent choice for many solutions,
proprietary systems have distinct advantages in a large number of situations.

             Microsoft has such a vast list of product offerings that it would be impossible
to enumerate them here in a manner that would do them justice.
Their desktop and server operating systems, development tools, and productivity
software have worldwide acceptance and are highly mature. Q Alpha can
